Accessibility

This is the official accessibility statement for Blessed William Howard Catholic High School.

This website has been developed to comply with the international web accessibility standards issued by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) as part of their Web Accessibility Initiative.

All reasonable efforts have been made to ensure that top level and main content pages conform to: W3C’s “Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0.”

Access Keys

Access keys are keyboard shortcuts that provide quick and easy access to main pages without the need for a pointing device such as a mouse. Navigation links that are common to most pages on this web site have been assigned shortcut keys for easier access. They have been included to assist users to navigate more easily around this website.

The following Access Keys are available:

1 Home Page

How to Use Access Keys

The use of access keys varies depending which browser software and platform you are using.

For Internet Explorer: • Press and hold the ‘Alt’ key • Press the required letter/number • Release the keys and press the ‘Enter’ key

For Netscape Navigator, Mozilla and Firefox: • Press and hold the ‘Alt’ key • Press the required letter/number

For Apple browsers • Use the ‘Ctrl’ key instead of the ‘Alt’ key

Text Size

Some users may find the text on the website easier to read by altering the font size. This can be achieved by the CTRL and PLUS (larger text) or MINUS (smaller text) keys (numeric keypad) in Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari.

Standards Compliance

The underlying structure of this site is based on XHTML 1.0, the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) first Recommendation for the Hypertext Markup Language.

XHTML 1.0 is a reformulation of HTML 4.01 in XML. XHTML has been designed to help make web pages more accessible for end users.

The visual style of the site is controlled using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) which help to separate the structure and content of a site from its appearance. This separation is important as some users may be browsing using devices which rely on non–visual methods of interaction and can therefore choose to ignore the CSS and focus solely on the page content.

This site was built to conform with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and complies with the Priority 1, Priority 2 and Priority 3 Guidelines. The site is also compliant with S.508 (USA) requirements.

Javascript

In some instances this site uses JavaScript for displaying content and highlighting errors in form completion. If your browser does not support JavaScript, the site will still function but it is recommended that you use a JavaScript enabled browser to experience the full functionality of the website.
